THE POETICS POROSITY OF RIOBALDO, THE “CERZIDOR”: RHYTHM, TRANSCENDENCE AND AESTHETIC EXPERIENCE IN “GRANDE SERTÃO: VEREDAS” CAPES Award for best thesis of the year in the area of Arts in 2007 The study analyses “Grande sertão: veredas” from a multidimensional perspective, approaching the dynamic interweaving of the novel’s different narrative levels, allowing, by way of the narrative, poetic learning to occur. Such learning, embodied in Riobaldo’s life path, demands the understanding of art as a flow, as a movement to be apprehended through the experience with three main pillars: rhythm, transcendence, and aesthetic experience. If we take as a basis the interaction among these three dimensions operating the logic of simultaneity, we have Riobaldo’s artistic expressions, shaped by a poetic path of well defined contours. Referred to in this paper as “poetics porosity”, it presupposes the permeability and the transit across the ordinary and extraordinary levels of reality, in the same way as if it were marked by the withdrawal from the traditional place attributed to artist. Thus constructed, this concept is then used as the key for the reader to launch a new glance, do a new reading of “Grande sertão: veredas”, by dialoguing with the dimensions present in the very Rosean poetic composition. It is then that the reader realizes that the multiplicity of levels in Riobaldo’s narrative can be read – in a simultaneous, dynamic and porous way – which, in turn, lends the literary work a methapoetical dimension. |
